Project Coordinators

The project will be coordinated by Dr Sarah Watson-Jones and Mr Dafydd Owen with the help of dedicated volunteers already giving much of their time to Transition Llambed.

Dr Sarah Watson-Jones

photo : Dr Sarah Watson-JonesSarah worked in farming in the Herefordshire area for several years before going to university where she completed a degree in Field Biology and Habitat Management and became involved in conservation volunteer work. She went on to research for a PhD which was concerned with genetic diversity in and conservation of crop wild relatives. Sarah has since worked in the environmental sector, most recently as a self-employed ecological consultant and as an associate tutor, teaching field ecology and plant identification skills.

Sarah moved to the Lampeter area about 2 years ago to live with her family on a smallholding, which they are trying to develop along organic and permaculture principles. She sees the challenge of Peak Oil as not so much of a problem but more as an exciting opportunity to relearn to appreciate our environment and to redress some of our more negative impacts on it. She is looking forward to seeing the people of Lampeter and its surroundings become the leaders in Wales in preparing for a world with limited oil.

Mr Dafydd Owen

photo : Dafydd OwenDafydd is a farmer’s son from the Teify Valley, in Bronant near Tregaron. His parents continue to farm in Bronant and he came back to the area in 2003 after 20 years following his career.

After finishing at Bangor University Dafydd went to work in Nepal as a volunteer before coming back to Wales and becoming a Deputy County Secretary for the NFU with whom he remained for 15 years. He began in Powys and South Wales before going to London as a Senior Policy Advisor for livestock and moving on to head the Information and Communication Technology department.

For the last five years Dafydd has been working for the bilingual communications company StrataMatrix. Dafydd said "I’ve always been interested in the environment, probably because of my background in farming and the chance to work in an area of such interest was an exceptional opportunity. Reading about the changes necessary to cope with Peak Oil is quite frightening, but it’s a challenge we have to overcome, and probably within the next decade".
