Age of Stupid
30 May 2009
A Transition Llambed and Lampter University Ecosoc event at Lampeter University on 30 May 2009
The showing was well attended by Transition Llambed supporters as well as attracting some new faces and a number of students from the University.
The thought-provoking film outlined quite clearly the seriousness of the issues arising from global climate change and the limited timescale within which they need to be addressed. It also highlighted the huge gap between mainstream science and public perception, with 99% of scientists regarding Global Warming as a serious issue which must be addressed compared to only 60% of the public. A gap in perception well illustrated by news footage of objectors to a windfarm in Bedfordshire.
Following the showing there was a panel debate with Elin Jones AM, Minister for Rural Affairs, and Cllr Rob Phillips responding to questions from the audience. A key theme of the questioning was the need to close the gap between rhetoric and action. This would require more communication of the reality of the threat facing society and a far more rapid response from all levels of Government.
