Preparing for Energy Descent project for Lampeter
Menter Llambed has received funding from the Welsh Assembly Government under Axes 3 & 4 of the Rural Development Plan for Wales 2007-2013 to carry out a Preparing for Energy Descent project for Lampeter (PEDL) and to draft and implement an Energy Descent Action Plan (EDAP).
Axis 3 aims to diversify the rural economy by providing support to farming families to diversify into non agricultural activities, support for the creation and development of micro-enterprises and support for the encouragement of tourism activities. It also aims to improve the quality of life in rural communities by supporting basic services for the rural economy and population, village renewal, conservation and upgrading of the rural heritage and training for rural economic actors.
Axis 4 uses the LEADER approach to engage grass-roots communities and to encourage the generation of new innovative ways to sustain rural development in Wales in the longer term. Support is also available to fund co-operation projects between Wales and other parts of the UK and other European Union Member States.
Menter Llambed will facilitate and coordinate the project with the support of Transition Llambed and Ymlaen Ceredigion (a voluntary organisation addressing sustainable development and coordinator of the Sustainability Strategy for Ceredigion, 2001).
The geographic area covered by the project includes the wards of Lampeter, Llangybi, Llanwenog and Llanfihangel Ystrad, covering 3,497 households with a total population of 8,658 people.
The project, as regards the RDP funding, will run until March 2011 but, hopefully, by this time the process will have engaged the wider community and will be more or less running itself!
